The proposed memorial sets out to convert the painful memory of the Holocaust into a transcendental experience for the visitors.
From afar, the escaping light from underneath the memorial separates itself from the rest of the boardwalk as a sacred space. Once the light has attracted pedestrians to the memorial, the overhead light fixtures and the slopping cobble stone flooring lure them underneath the memorial where the transcendental experience takes place. The reflective qualities of the interior create a unique moment where the reflected face are meant to be representations of the lives lost in the Holocaust, connecting the pedestrians to the victims.
